Cost-Efficient Glass Offers High Rate of Protection

As a specialist in the door industry, we are also committed to security. We are pleased to offer a new protective glass solution from School Guard Glass (SGG). Their products create safe and effective door solutions for schools and businesses.

SGG Protective Glass in Action

The video below is a live fire demonstration of these specialty glass products coordinated with the Scottsdale, Arizona Police Department. The video shows how SGG products deter entry in spite of damage by a baseball bat, a sledgehammer and even gunshots. Even with repeated attempts, an intruder cannot reach through a hole to unlock a door.

SG4™ and SG5™ are specialty glass products that protect against blunt force entry attempts, weaponized break-ins and assaults. Best of all, SG4 and SG5 can be retrofit into existing doors. Plus, they are a cost-efficient security option. Typically, it costs between $1,000 and $1,200 to replace the glass with SG4 or SG5 in a full glass door. This includes the new glass, reinforcements and installation costs.

Consider the security investment. SG4 and SG5 are cost-effective ways to protect what is inside your facility. Gain a sense of security for the unexpected. Put time on your side when the unexpected does happen. More time means you can enact emergency safety protocols. And, the police have more time to respond.

SG4™

SG4™ is a laminated glass product with outer layers of glass and a custom security-strengthened substrate core. It slows down intruders, however, is not bullet resistant to certain ballistic threats.

When shot, it does not shatter like ordinary tempered glass. Therefore, it is far stronger than laminated glass, or even glass reinforced with security film. SG4™ remains in the door frame. This way, any would-be intruders cannot gain entry. SG4 has a 10-year warranty. See the SG4 product specifications.

SG4 is compliant with the following standards:

  • ASTM C1036 – Standard Specification-Flat Glass (ASTM International)
  • ASTM C1172 – Standard Specification for Laminated Architectural Flat Glass (ASTM International)
  • ANSI Z97.1 Safety Materials Used in Buildings (American National Standards Institute)
  • CPSC 6 CFR 1201 (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission )

SG5

SG5™ is a laminated glass product with outer layers of glass and a custom heat-strengthened, chemically-bonded core. The patent-pending SG5™ core reacts to physical abuse like metal, which means it can bend. However, it will not tear or rip like other security products.

SG5™ can replace glass used in openings that normally use 1/4-inch or 5/16-inch glass. S54 has a 10-year warranty. See the SG5 product specifications.

SG5 is compliant with the following standards:

  • ASTM C1036 – Standard Specification-Flat Glass (ASTM International)
  • ASTM C1172 – Standard Specification for Laminated Architectural Flat Glass (ASTM International)
  • ANSI Z97.1 Safety Materials Used in Buildings (American National Standards Institute)
  • CPSC 6 CFR 1201 (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission)

About School Guard Glass

Christopher Kapiloff started SGG in 2012 after the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School. As a parent of three children in elementary school, Kapiloff was motivated to find a solution. He used his expertise in specialty glass design to protect schools and other buildings from future tragedies.

Our purpose was to create a product that would be so hard to break through that the perpetrator would have to spend five minutes or more trying to gain access.
